The Resilience Project
In the classroom with Year 1
This week in The Resilience Project Year 1 completed a lesson on Emotional Literacy called Rain, Hail or Shine. Year 1 explored the benefits of managing and expressing emotions as they arise and what also can happen if we try and squash those feelings without identifying them and moving through them.
Students listened to a book called Mr Huff. Mr. Huff is a story about the clouds and the sunshine in each of our lives. Bill is having a bad day. Mr. Huff is following him around and making everything seem difficult. Bill tries to get rid of him, but Mr. Huff just gets bigger and bigger! Then they both stop, and a surprising thing happens . . .
Year 1 then worked in their journals, identifying some feelings they may experience and discussed some strategies of what they can do when they experience these emotions. The importance of recognising, acknowledging and being aware of what to do when feelings arise.
