Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you for the excellent attendance at the Parent Information Evenings last week! We appreciated your attendance and trust that parents and students found these events informative and worthwhile. If there are any questions post these events, please do let us know and we will be happy to work with you. Our aim is to ensure every student is feeling confident and well prepared for the next step in their education, whether that be Kindy, Year 7 or Year 11.
Nurturing confident and effective learners
Earlier this term, the Secondary School Staff enjoyed a day of professional learning with Graham Wright. Graham is a well-known HSC data analysis expert and as well as working with us on how teachers can use data to inform learning and decision making, we focused on how to support our students to be effective learners; whether their destiny is the HSC or other pathways. Becoming an effective learner means developing a range of skills and regular study/work outside of school is part of the package.
Encouraging students to work outside of school is crucial for their academic success and development of essential life skills. This reinforces classroom learning, helps students consolidate knowledge, and prepares them for future responsibilities. It also fosters independent learning, critical thinking, time management and self-discipline, all of which are valuable for long-term success.
Students at St Anne’s have active lives with interests outside of school including sporting commitments, casual work, cultural and service activities. We believe that with reasonable expectations and a flexible approach, our students can experience the benefits of completing work outside of school without missing any of their extra-curricular interests.
In the Primary School, the expectation is for the students to participate in home reading and maintain a Reading Log. In Secondary, students will be expected to complete short tasks assigned by their teachers.
Academic Benefits:
- Reinforces Learning:
Homework provides students with extra time to practice and review what they've learned in class, helping them retain information and deepen their understanding.
- Identifies Knowledge Gaps:
Homework can help teachers and parents identify areas where students are struggling, allowing for targeted support and interventions.
- Prepares for Future:
By completing homework, students develop the organizational, time management, and study skills necessary for success in higher education and future careers.
- Boosts Confidence and Self-Esteem:
Successfully completing homework can build a student's confidence and sense of accomplishment, leading to increased motivation and engagement.
Developmental Benefits:
- Promotes Independent Learning:
Homework encourages students to take responsibility for their learning, fostering self-reliance and a proactive approach to education.
- Develops Time Management Skills:
Students learn to allocate time effectively, meet deadlines, and manage their workload.
- Encourages Self-Discipline:
Homework requires students to be focused and persistent, even when faced with challenging tasks, helping them develop a strong work ethic.
- Builds Communication Skills:
Working on homework assignments often requires students to communicate with teachers, parents, or other students for clarification or support.
Beyond the Classroom:
- Prepares for Future Responsibilities:
Homework is a reflection of the responsibilities students will face in the workplace and beyond, helping them develop a sense of accountability and responsibility.
- Fosters a Love of Learning:
By engaging with learning materials outside of the classroom, students can develop a deeper appreciation for knowledge and a greater desire to learn.
- Strengthens Family Connections:
Helping students with homework can create opportunities for positive interactions and shared learning experiences within the family,
Parents can expect to receive more information with regards to the homework expectations in the Secondary School by the beginning of Semester 2.
Sacred Heart Ladies Lunch
This annual event gave our students the opportunity to serve the seniors of the community and we are pleased to report they did so with excellence! From the committee:
We would also be very grateful if you could please pass on our extreme gratitude and congratulations to the students and Virginia for the most outstanding work they did for us yesterday. The consideration and kindness they showed to all at the luncheon was truly beautiful. Nothing was a bother and they accepted all jobs with grace and dignity. They all are a credit to their families and to St Anne's.
In Conclusion…
We are delighted to share the outstanding success of our recent Athletics Carnival. It was a pleasure to witness the energy, sportsmanship, and spirit displayed by all our students throughout the day.
Congratulations to St Joes who were the overall winners with a point score of 1622.
I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to every student for their enthusiastic participation and positive attitude. It was truly inspiring to see how students not only competed with determination but also supported one another, cheered on their peers, and celebrated each other's achievements.
The level of cooperation, encouragement, and perseverance on display made this event not only a showcase of athletic ability but also a celebration of our school values in action.
A big thank you to our staff and volunteers who helped make the day such a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Special congratulations to Dan Leary (Sec Sports Coordinator) and Sarah Overs (Primary Sports Coordinator)
We are proud of all our students—well done!

It is a busy time for students and staff with end of year exams for Year 9 and 10, end of semester assessments, reports etc. Students will be busy revising in readiness for the exams and they are encouraged to use the study skills focused on in class to help prepare.
The Community Council meets this week and we will update you all on discussions and happenings in our next newsletter.
With best wishes,

Introducing St Carlo Acutis -
Carlo Acutis (3 May 1991 – 12 October 2006) was a British born teenager, primarily of Italian ancestry, known for his devotion to the Eucharist, with him creating a website documenting Eucharistic miracles prior to his death from leukemia at the age of fifteen. In 2020 the Catholic Church recognised the curing of a child's pancreatic disease as a miracle attributed to Acutis's intercession.Following this, Acutis's mother told the press that her son had appeared to her in dreams saying that he would be not only beatified but also canonized a saint in the future.A website was created for his canonization cause. Due to his enjoyment of video games in life, Acutis has been described as the "first gamer saint".Acutis's sainthood was confirmed when the pope approved the second miracle: a 21-year-old student in Costa Rica made a swift recovery after head trauma from a serious bicycle accident after her mother prayed for her daughter's recovery at Acutis's tomb in the Umbrian town of Assisi.St Carlo is the patron Saint of the internet.
Prayer for Saint Carlo Acutis
O God our Father,
Thank you for giving us Carlo,
a model of life for young people,
and a message of love for all.
You made him fall in love
with your son, jesus,
making the Eucharist
his ‘highway to heaven’.
You gave him Mary,
as a beloved Mother,
and with the Rosary,YOu made him
sing the praises of her tenderness.
Accept his prayer for us.
Attend especially to the poor,
whom he loved and assisted.
Through his intercession,
may I receive the grace I need.
May his smile shine in Your Kingdom
as it did for us,
to emanate the glory
of Your Holy Name.
Amen
