Dear St Anne's Community,
Welcome once again to our fortnightly school newsletter. School newsletters are an important part of communication with the community and we appreciate you taking the time to read and catch up on the latest "St Anne's" news.
NAPLAN 2021 (WEEK 4)
Once again the NAPLAN testing program will be conducted in our school next Tuesday 11th - Friday 14th. All students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 (unless they are exempt) will complete the literacy and numeracy tests along with their nationwide peers. It essentially provides information for schools on the different literacy and numeracy skills that are demonstrated and allows schools to recognise strengths and weaknesses in the student cohort. We strive to ensure that it is as stress less as possible for the students and hope that the students endeavour to do their best in the different tests. Once again this year, the testing will be online. We ask that all students get a good nights rest before each test and that they eat a solid breakfast.
Attendance
We continue to highlight attendance as a means to improve student outcomes and for building lifelong skills. Please contact your child's homeroom/classroom teacher if you have any issues or challenges around attendance.
Compass
We are very excited about the introduction of a new School Administration System (Compass) at our school. Compass will let our school manage and automate a range of processes through one platform. Compass will, over time, allow us to manage the following functions in this platform; Attendance, Events, Student Wellbeing, Parent Portal, Student Reporting. To begin with, we will start by marking attendance from the beginning of Term 3 and then work up to using the other functions. I look forward to communicating more information to you as we transition to using Compass.
Professional Development
We continue to have a number of Staff Development courses running in the school. Over the past week, we had our staff work with Catholic Education representatives on developing the new Religous Education curriculum. At times, your child will have various relief teachers, which allows our staff to conduct these development courses. I can assure you that the students continue their normal program with minimal changes.
Electricity
Last weekend, the electricity upgrade continued. The most exciting part for us as a school, was the removal of the annoying power pole and lines next to the toilet block.
Canteen
We are still in search of a Canteen Manager for our school canteen. If you are interested or know of someone who is, please contact the school.
Police Liaison Visit
Years 3-10 listened to a presentation from the Police Liaison officers this week, regarding Cyber Safety. Some very important safety tips were passed on.
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all our wonderful Mothers. I hope you have a great day this Sunday.
Take care,
Grant
Are you able to please help sew?
This year we are fortunate to be able to celebrate Confirmation for the Year 6 and 7 students. Given that this is a such a large group I am in need of some volunteers to sew stoles ready for the students to be able to place symbols on for their Confirmation stoles.Whether you have a sewing machine and feel that you may be able to help sew; you can sew if a machine can be found for you to use; or if you are able to help cut out some felt patches in preparation ready for the students we would love to hear from you. We would be very grateful for your assistance. Please email Mrs Collins at jacqueline.collins@cg.catholic.edu.au if you are able to assist in any way.

Please email Mrs Collins if you would like your child to be involved in the parish as an altar server. Any child who has celebrated their First Eucharist is eligible to become an altar server. An instruction booklet and practices will be provided for them as well as being placed on the parish roster with a mentor server who is experienced and able to support them in their training. Please be in touch at jacqueline.collins@cg.catholic.edu.au as soon as possible as booklets have been handed out and training is starting.
2021 Community Council Fundraising Goal
The Community Council have raised $9408 of their $20,000 fundraising goal, which will go towards playground improvements.
In Year 2 this week we have been studying Fractions and Decimals. The students have been using concrete materials to recognise and interpret common uses of halves, quarters and eighths of shapes and collections. We do this by folding and cutting 2D shapes, then we divide and group collections of objects. We learn to write the fractions as words and as numerals.
The athletics carnival date has been set for Friday 21st May and we require parent helpers to assist with the field events. If you are able to help for some time in any field event, please complete the form below and return it to the office ASAP:
I am able to assist with high jump, long jump, discus or shot put from 9.30am to 12noon or 12noon to 2.30pm (Please circle your choices of event and time).

The annual Mortimer Shield carnival was held in Temora last Tuesday with St Anne’s fielding tow Tag teams and one boys league team. In beautiful conditions all three sides once again did themselves and the school proud with their skill and sportsmanship.
The girls Red Tag team played four games, winning three and suffering one loss. Their players of the day were Lani McCrone and Annabelle Wiencke.
The girls Blue Tag team wone one, drew one and lost two. Their players of the day were Lana King and Issie Crawford.
The boys league team won all three of their games and will progress to the finals in Wagga in Week 10 this term. Their players of the day were Carus Gray and George Morton.
Thanks to Mrs Maxwell who coached both tag teams and Mr Hughes who coached the boys and many thanks to the many parent and family who came along to support the teams.
