- Kindergarten 2022 Orientation
Dear St Anne's Community,
If you have a child to enrol in 2022, please go to the school website and complete the online enrolment form. Alternatively, contact the office if you would like to receive an enrolment pack. Our Kinder Orientation program starts tomorrow, Friday 21st May. Any child preparing for kindergarten in 2022 is welcome to come along regardless of which primary school they will be attending.
Intensive Learning Support
The NSW state government has allocated some extra funding to give students a boost who may have missed some learning due to the COVID lockdown. We will be using that funding to employ 2 Classroom Support Assistants, Elizabeth Brabin and Georgie McKelvie, who commenced their roles this week. They will be involved in supporting 2 intervention programs, The Reading Tutor Program and MacqLit, which are both from MultiLit. Your child might be part of one of these programmes for a period of time, but you will be notified formally if this is the case. These children will be identified through our school testing programme as benefitting from some small group work because a concept might have slipped by them during remote learning. Our school returned fairly quickly to face to face learning and we don’t feel students lost a lot of learning time, but we are always happy for some funding to give students extra targeted support.
Naplan
Well done to our Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students for their efforts with Naplan last week. These tests will provide us with information on literacy and numeracy and allow us to identify strengths and weaknesses in the student cohort and broad trends across the school.
Year 7 Music Teacher
Mrs Sutherland is now teaching Year 7 Music by herself. Martin from the Young Regional School of Music has resigned from his employer.
Mother's Day liturgy and lunch
Thank you to all the Mothers and Grandmothers that were able to join us at our Lunch and Liturgy. It was a really nice occasion and the Infants did an amazing job hosting the Liturgy.
Canteen
We are still in search of a Canteen Manager for our school canteen. If you are interested or know of someone who is, please contact the school. Hours and days are flexible. Our school canteen will be closed from Monday 24th May until further notice.
Annual School Plan "Snapshot 1"
Our first goal in our Annual School Plan is to "Improve Student Achievement". Our two specific target areas are Maths and Reading and we will measure this using Progressive Achievement (PAT) data that we collect at various stages of the year. Some of the key improvement strategies we will use include the utilisation of PAT resources and teaching strategies and to embed direct instruction/daily review across K-10. One of our actions include; holding regular data meetings to review and inform our teaching practice.
Take care,
Grant Haigh

Primary Reporting - Semester 1 2021
Our teaching team have begun the process of creating each child’s Semester 1 2021 report. In Semester 1:
For Kindergarten students:
• Achievement in each subject will be reported using a four-point scale (Well Above Expectations, Above Expectations, Meeting Expectations and Working Towards Expectations).
For Year 1 to Year 6 students:
• Academic grades for each subject using a five-point scale from A-E will be reported using the NSW Common Grade Scale.
For all students:
• Strand Achievement will be reported in English, Mathematics, Human Society and its Environment, PDHPE and Creative Arts using a five-point scale (Excellent, High, Sound, Basic, Elementary).
• Engagement with Learning statements, which are taken directly from the Australian Curriculum, will provide specific information about your child’s Critical and Creative Thinking, and Personal and Social Responsibility, using a three-point scale (Beginning, Developing, Consistently).
• Individual student comments will not be used in the Semester 1 Reports.
We encourage you to have a conversation with your child's classroom teacher, should you have a concern with the information contained in the upcoming school reports. The new approach to Academic Reporting is a developing process and it is a system wide approach. All Canberra/Goulburn Catholic Primary Schools will be reporting in the same format. Further work will be undertaken in the coming months to determine how progress and achievement is best reported based on what we know to be important information about a student’s learning and progress.
SECONDARY DANCE OFF
The Year 7, 8 & 9 students led by their fearless leaders in Year 10 are working hard on their dance routines for their dance off in Week 9. The students will be competing against each other as part of their Wellbeing day. Checking out some of their moves today - I think the competition is heating up and some kids are definitely getting excited for Showcase next term!
YEAR 10 RELIGION
Our boys have also been preparing for their retreat sessions that they will run with Year 7 next term. As part of their leadership program in Religion this term, the boys need to run their own session, sharing their personal stories of their faith journey. It has been a nice reminder for our students on the role Jesus and God play in their lives, and how living by example, we can help foster that belief in our peers.
Primary Assembly Roster Term 2
During the term, parents are invited to attend our weekly assemblies.
The following classes will be hosting Term 2 weekly assemblies:
Week 7 - Yr 3
Week 8 - Yr 2
Week 9 - Yr 1
Week 10 - Kinder/Yr 5
This week Years 9 and 10 spent time at Goldenfields Water learning about the many career paths that they have on offer. Students were lucky to have some very experienced staff taking them through almost every aspect of the running of his facility. They were able to have some hands-on experience that they normally would not be exposed to.
National Simultaneous Storytime
You can still order your lunches from the school canteen and they will be delivered at approx. 11.10am, the usual time, after lunches have been delivered to the infants. There will be no specified lunch break so students should eat when they can between events.
Good luck next Tuesday to our cross country runners who will be representing Western Region at the Mount Stromlo in Canberra. They are Grace McCrone, Georgia Gibbs, Immy Baldock, Lenny Lancaster, George Morton.
