Dear St Anne's Community,
Welcome back!
I wish I was welcoming you back with open gates, but unfortunately, COVID has other plans for us. Thank you for your ongoing support as the restrictions have been put in place again and I really do appreciate your constant flexibility. For parents, the most important part is not to enter school grounds; if you do you must come via the office and sign in with the Service NSW QR code and our Kiosk. It is recommended that you wear a mask also. We are still planning on delivering a showcase to the community in Week 10; however, I have had to cancel a number of excursions that were due to take place in the next couple of weeks.
A big welcome to Mrs Belinda Maxwell in our school canteen. Belinda started this week and there is a real buzz around the place, now that we have a canteen open again. Thank you to Eloise Warren and Tracey McCormack for their support as the canteen reopened. Thank you to our many volunteers that offer their time in the canteen as well.
We warmly welcome Champa Chau and her family to the St Anne's community. Champa started in Year 2 today. We are also welcoming back Bayley Blackwell in Year 9 on Monday. It is great to have you both at St Anne's.
Our school playground is looking amazing. Hampered by some rain, the workers were able to complete their laying of the new asphalt just in time for school to return. When restrictions ease, I can't wait for you to be able to see it up closer. I have met with Primary SRC and I plan to meet with Secondary SRC students to hear what equipment they would like on the playground moving forward.
An enjoyable part of my job is being able to move around the whole school and witness the great teaching and learning that is taking place. I am continually impressed with the handwriting skills of our students and I was fortunate enough to listen to some Kindy students read today.
We have a new electronic Kiosk in our office that allows you to sign your child in and out of school. This Kiosk is part of the new Compass student management system that we migrated to at the begining of this term. If your child is late, please take them to the office to sign in. This will then automatically update your child's attendance status on the roll.

Staff Faith Formation - Staff Development Day
Faith is at the heart of our community and the staff appreciated the opportunity to nurture theirs this week. The staff were fortunate to take time on Monday at the annual Staff Spirituality Day to reflect on relationships with one another, and to spend valuable time nurturing our personal faith development. We enjoyed such a gorgeous morning walking around the lake to admire God’s handiwork, which was followed by Mass, reflection, time to focus on the role models of Mary MacKillop and St Maximillian Kole and prayer.
Altar server training
We will be recommencing the training for altar servers again next week. Many students expressed an interest but few notes were received. If you wish your child to be trained and they have received the Sacrament of First Eucharist they are eligible. Please email Mrs Collins to express interest at jacqueline.collins@cg.catholic.edu.au as soon as possible.
Confirmation congratulations
Congratulations are extended to the Year 6 and 7 candidates who celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation at the end of Term 2.
An enormous thank you to the amazing volunteers who offered and were available to assist with the stole making. Your generosity is so very appreciated. Thanks are also extended to the French Hot Bread for donating the bread for retreat and the cupcakes for the candidates.
A huge thanks to the amazing efforts of the Year 9 students for leading the Confirmation retreat and sharing their faith so willingly. You are a true credit to yourselves and it was a pleasure working alongside you.
Confirmation Payment reminder - Could I please remind the Year 7 candidates who have not yet made the payment of $20 for the program to please hand this to Mrs Collins or the front office in a labelled envelope asap please.
Year 10 Retreat to Warrambui
Congratulations are extended to the Year 10 students who were an absolute credit to themselves and our school last week at Warrambui. We were led by the wonderful CSYMA Team and it was a fantastic opportunity to also join with students from Year 10 at Tumut and Cootamundra. We especially thank Father Steven Drum for joining us to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation and to stay overnight to spend some time with the boys. It was an amazing opportunity which we were so very blessed to have.
We thank our public speakers Father Steven, Father Dan and Sister Rosie Drum who visited us recently to speak with the students from Years 4-10. They were so inspirational in sharing their experience as missionaries in the church and it was a wonderful opportunity for us to congratulate Fathers Steven and Dan on their recent Ordination to the priesthood. It was lovely to see how engaged the students were and to acknowledge these former St Anne’s students who have achieved so much in their ministry.
Feast of the Sacred Heart
The recent casserole and trivia night was a huge success for the Parish on the Feast of the Sacred Heart. A huge thank you to Mrs Tame for preparing and hosting an amazing trivia night and to Ms Cutcliffe for her support as well. It was exciting to see so many of our students there and we hope to see even more for future events. Your involvement on the night was excellent. Special thanks to Poppy Minchin for her coordination of the games during the rounds.
Secondary learnt about the destruction of sacred sites and what they can do as the next generation to help ‘Heal Country’ for this year’s NAIDOC Week celebration.
Some pictures of our Infants enjoying NAIDOC Week. They coloured in Wiradjuri Totems of the long neck turtle and goanna, and got to put on some Ochre(natural paint ground from rocks) as well.
Issue 5 of the Scholastic Book Club for 2021 has been sent home this week.

With the start of a new semester Secondary change from History to Geography during their HSIE lessons. For Year 7 this means becoming familiar with maps and the information they give us about our world. We started the term by looking at Google maps of Temora and examining how the ‘old fashion’ drawn maps are being superseded by satellite maps using actual photos that show real detail. We also spent time using our investigative skills developed during History to see if we could figure out when some of the images were captured. The class did very well at this using images of their own houses and known locations around town, and their knowledge of when places changed. We managed to date the satellite images as between May and August 2020.
Year 9 will be focussed on food production and how the way we use our farmlands has changed over time. As some of our students come from farms that provide food for the rest of us, this is a way for students to make a contribution based on actual experiences and the practices that their families have. In the past this has meant that I have learnt a lot about farming from real farmers; being a former city kid I am loving that the information we have in our class room comes from those actually producing my food.
Year 10 will also be looking at our natural environment, but with a focus on conservation and management. We can all agree that how we treat our land has changed over the past few decades, and Year 10 will be learning about what has brought on these changes. They will also undertake an in depth study of The Chernobyl nuclear disaster, and will then conduct individual research on a disaster that has had wide ranging effects on the natural and human environments.
Year 8 English are looking at the way ‘Australia’ is represented in text. This will mean a study of ‘Johnny Hart’s Heroes’ in combination with several short stories and poems that illustrate Australia in different ways.
Stage 5 Food Technology has a focus on Food Equity this term and will be cooking many dishes that rely on limited ingredients, or have come about due to a lack of regularly used ingredients. Keep an eye out for images of these on Facebook.
I will also be joining Mrs Sutherand for Year 8 Music this term. Unfortunately we are unable to take the students to watch ‘Hamilton’ in Sydney, but we will be able to stream it via Disney Plus and they will still be able to develop their understanding of how music and song can be used to tell a detailed story.
Last term Year 1 were super excited to use Storybook Words like ‘spectacular’, ‘devour’, ‘ferocious’ and ‘gaze’ in their own writing. They have been using Word Webs to extend their vocabulary and spelling skills. They have also been smashing goals with their knowledge and use of long vowel digraphs and trigraphs.
In Maths we have been focusing on time. We have been working on both digital and analogue clocks. Year 1 has also been using correct division and multiplication symbols when they are explaining different groups of. We are looking forward to a great Term 3.
In the last week of Term 2, Secondary students had the opportunity to play in the NSW Netball Cup held in Wagga. This is a competition St. Anne’s has entered for many years, but this is the first time we have played Round 1 of the series in Wagga. Thankfully we had the opportunity to use the inside courts as it was a cold and wet day, but this meant that teams only played a limited number of games.
All of the teams showed great spirit and teamwork and participated with vigour. The 9/10 Boys team were successful on the day and were invited to attend the Round 2 occuring this term. Unfortunately, due to additional restrictions coming into place, we had to withdraw from any further rounds.
