Dear St Anne's Community,
Term 1 is progressing rapidly and it is nice to see lots of "normal" school activities such as excursions and assemblies, return to our calendar. Thank you for your ongoing support surrounding COVID measures and monitoring for symptoms. I am very appreciative of the diligence that is being shown when your children are unwell. As we head towards the cooler months, I know that this will become a harder task; however, this community approach of looking out for others, will put us in good stead.
School Grounds
A friendly reminder that students are not to be on school grounds before 8:30am of a morning. Playground supervision begins at 8:30am.
RAT Kits
On Thursday 10th March, a further 3 Rapid Antigen Test kits were sent home with your child. If you find that you have gone through all of your kits and would like some more to support the testing of symptomatic children, please contact the school. We have a limited number available for this purpose.
Welcome
A warm welcome to our two new students that started with us this week. We look forward to getting to know them and their families.
Kindergarten, Adam Sheraz and Year 2, Isla Sheraz
Naplan Numeracy
We have been advised that our school has achieved ‘High Progress’ in the following NAPLAN assessment/s in 2021 since the previous NAPLAN tests (2019):
- Numeracy Year 3 to Year 5
- Numeracy Year 7 to Year 9
This means our students’ progress is either ‘Above’ or ‘Well above’ that of students across the country who had the same NAPLAN starting score two years ago and who have similar background as the students at our school. I am very impressed with this and I appreciate the effort that goes into making St Anne's a quality learning community. Congratulations everyone!
Parent/Teacher Interviews
Save the dates! We will be holding parent/teacher interviews on Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th April from 3:30pm-5:30pm, both days. More detailed information will be sent out to you, including your login details to make bookings, in the coming week.
Maths Pathway
As mentioned in the introductory letters at the start of term, we are using the Maths Pathway program in years 5 to 9. Maths Pathway is an individualised learning and teaching model for Mathematics that is tailored to cater for differing student needs. Instead of all students learning the same topic at the same time, each student will focus on what they are ready to learn, so every student can experience success in Mathematics. Maths Pathway focuses on effective student learning, building a deep understanding of Mathematics and catering for a diverse range of learning needs. Students are initially given a diagnostic test, which determines what they currently know about Mathematics and what they still need to learn. As a result of this diagnostic testing, students are given individualised modules to complete that are tailored to what they are ready to learn. The students complete six modules and are tested fortnightly on the modules that they have completed. Students will be given feedback about their effort, accuracy and growth. The effort reflects your child’s completion of modules every fortnight, the accuracy tracks the percentage of modules that your child is mastering on each test and the growth combines the effort and accuracy to determine how much Mathematics content your child will learn in one year if they continue that growth rate. Within a fortnightly cycle of Mathematics lessons, students will be working on modules, having mini lessons with their teacher in small groups, exploring rich tasks, testing their understanding of the modules they have been working on, reflecting on their learning and receiving feedback from their teacher about their progress after each test through individual feedback conferences. If you have any questions about the Maths Pathway program, please contact your child's teacher and we look forward to showing you more detailed information at the parent/teacher interviews.
Long Lunch
The annual St Anne's Long Lunch is fast approaching. Saturday 2nd April at the Temora Railway Station platform. This is a great event that raises a fantastic amount of money for our school. Not only is it a great fundraiser, it is a really good social event where the community comes together for a fun time. It is a perfect way to meet other families from the school as well. You don't need a table of 10 to attend, you can come along by yourself or with a couple of other people. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to make contact with the names listed on the flyer further on in this newsletter.
Principal's Retreat
Last week, I attended the annual Catholic Education Canberra/Goulburn Principal's retreat in Bowral. We spent time meeting as a Western Region group of Principals to discuss matters from our area and then we met as a whole group to work through system priorities. The last two days were spent with our Archbishop, Christopher Prowse. He spoke about Mercy and Justice and how it can be a struggle to achieve both sometimes. He also unpacked the Spiritual Work of Mercy and the Corporal Works of Mercy.
Attendance
Don't forget to keep the attendance notes coming in. The quickest and easiest way to let us know your child will be absent is to fill in an attendance note on the Compass App. We send out regular reminders if there are any notes due. Please take the time to click on the link and fill in the attendance notes.
Catholic Education identifies the following levels of attendance:
Excellent Attendance 95% and above (e.g. 2.5 days absence or less in a term or 10 absences over a year)
Regular Attendance 90%-94.9% (e.g. 2.6 to 5 days absence in a term or 10.1 - 20 absences in a year)
Emerging Absenteeism 80%-89.9% (e.g. 5.1 to 10 days absence in a term or 20.1 - 40 absences in a year)
Chronic Absenteeism Less than 80% (e.g. more than 10 days absence in a term or 40 absences in a year)
Please reach out to us if we can be of assistance in encouraging school attendance. We take a very pastoral approach and always look to find solutions. Sometimes all it take is a conversation to understand situations, and students can be back on track with their attendance.
St Patrick's Day
Congratulations to everyone for your fundraising efforts and for the way in which you dressed up for the event. I am very proud of the community for the compassion they have shown towards the flood affected Condong Primary School. Thank you to all the staff that prepared for the day; from baking to decorating, it is appreciated. It was nice to have a whole school event again. Keep an eye out on the school Facebook page for the total amount raised announcement.
Take care,
Grant Haigh
