Dear St Anne's Community,
It has been a very productive start to Term 3, with students settling back into the school routine with ease.
SHOWCASE IS ON! We are very excited that despite the recent announcement of restrictions, Showcase will go ahead as planned for Week 10 this term. More detailed information will be distributed over the coming weeks.
Year 11 & 12
Our Year 11 and 12 journey is well under way, with our Secondary teachers undertaking various mentoring and planning sessions in preparation for next year. It is a very exciting and rewarding time. I thank our staff for their enthusiasm, support and efforts as we work through the various stages of planning.
Staffing
Kristie Winkley started with us at the beginning of the term, teaching Year 5. Kristie is a valued addition to our teaching staff and Year 5 are enjoying their learning. Heidi Jones will also be joining us this term as a Learning Support Assistant. To support our extension into Year 11 and 12, I have advertised a Maths and Science teacher position. This is a great opportunity for someone to join an amazing team of educators and it is a permanent/fulltime position. Chris Wendt (Secondary Wood/Metal Teacher) has announced that he will be resigning from St Anne's at the end of Week 7, Term 4. I will be advertising this position very shortly.
Uniform
The uniform committee have met twice to date. We will not be changing our current school uniform, except for the sports tracksuit pants. There have been many conversations about these and we will be exploring the option of changing that item. Any change to this requires a 2-year phase in period where the old pants can be worn, as well as the new ones. Uniform Committee Scope:
- Review the current school uniform
- Sports tracksuit pants in particular
- Discuss Lowes and the possibility of having all of our uniform with them.
- Design (based on community feedback) a uniform for our Year 11 and 12 students (priority)
Enrolments
I have started the enrolment interviews for 2023 Kindergarten students. If you know of anyone that is yet to hand in their enrolment form, please encourage them to do this asap, as numbers are filling up fast. Our Year 7 numbers are also looking great, with enrolments coming in from West Wyalong, Ariah Park and other Primary Schools here in town. Our very first Year 11 class have been busy choosing their course selections for next year.
Before School
A friendly reminder that playground supervision starts at 8:30am of a morning.
Maintenance
Over the last holiday period, the Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 classrooms were painted. We are now waiting on the new Autex pin board material to go in the Year 10 room. Our maintenance worker Greg, cleaned carpets, cleared gutters, cleaned the toilet block, changed light bulbs, cleaned the external staircase and the outside eating areas.
Pupil Free Days
Thank you for your support with our two extra pupil free days this term. Week 6 Monday 22nd August and and Week 10 Friday 23rd September.
Take care,
Grant Haigh
Principal
Feast of Mary MacKillop
Next Monday is the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop. The students will be celebrating in their Primary and Secondary groups to recall the significant impact that she has had on Catholic Education and the amazing legacy that she has left for us to follow by her example.
The staff were fortunate to have Sr Jan Barnett who is a sister of St Joseph based at Mary MacKillop House, North Sydney who was invited to lead the staff in a Spiritual Staff Development Day on the first day of this term, about Mary MacKillop. Mrs Louise Gaynor organised the day and planned a beautiful Mass for the staff to begin their day of retreat. It was a wonderful opportunity to spend time considering the Josephite tradition that she began and the inspirational way in which we are guided to continue our work as educators in faith here at St Anne’s Central School.
Shine Conference for Stage 5
The annual Shine gathering of Youth Ministry is for the Stage 5 students from Years 9 & 10 across the Archdiocese. We are sure that the students will embrace this opportunity to share with their peers for a day of Spiritual renewal, games, speakers, etc. The date for the event has been moved to Friday 28th October and is to be held at Merici College in Braddon, ACT. We are excited to be able to meet in person with students from across the Archdiocese once again this year.
First Eucharist
The Year 4 students (or older) who are eligible to make their First Communion, (having already made their First Reconciliation) will begin their preparation at the end of this term. The Parent Information evening will be held at the end of this term and further information will be sent home to Year 4 families shortly. If you would like your child to be a part of the program and they are not currently a part of the Year 4 class, please contact Mrs Collins as soon as possible to ensure that you also receive the necessary information.
Important First Eucharist dates for the calendar: Term 3 *Parent Formation evening Thursday 9th September (Week 8) in St Joseph’s Hall Term 4 *Enrolment Masses: Saturday 15th October and Sunday 23rd October (please note that it is a requirement that candidates preparing for the Sacrament of First Eucharist must be presented at one of these parish masses). *Retreat Day for Sacrament of First Eucharist Friday November 11th 9:10-3:20pm in St Joseph's hall *Sacrament of First Eucharist Sunday 13th November at Sacred Heart Church |
Year 7 Retreat
Year 10 have been preparing to lead the Year 7 Retreat later this term, in their Youth Ministry unit for Religion. This will be a fun, engaging day and is a wonderful opportunity for both leadership and spiritual formation. Please keep an eye out for further details in the near future.
Parish Masses on Wednesdays
Usually at 10am each week classes are rostered to attend mass with the Parishioners. Unfortunately classes will not be attending at this time, inline with the recent COVID-19 guidelines from CE.
Altar servers
Please be in touch if you and your child are interested in them being involved and training as an altar server.. If your child has made their First Eucharist in the Catholic Church they are eligible to serve. It is a beautiful way to serve in the Church and a necessary job that requires as much support as possible. Please email jacqueline.collins@cg.catholic.edu.au to add your child’s name to the list.
Book Week
Students in Kinder to Year 6 are invited to dress up as a character from their favourite book on Thursday 25th August (Please note that this date has changed from the previous newsletter). Students will participate in a parade on the day. Due to our current restrictions parents will be unable to attend.
Roosters
We currently have a couple of roosters looking for a home. If you are interested, please contact the office and ask to speak with Klara Kite (Tuesday to Thursday) or Wendy Sutherland (Monday to Friday).
Scholastic Book Fair

All orders have been sent home. Some students are waiting on books which have sold out. These have been ordered and will be distributed when they arrive. The Book Fair is now closed.

Issue #5 orders of the Schoalstic Book Club have been placed. Books will be distributed as soon as they arrive at school.

Congratulations to our Cross Country champions, Immy and Zephanie who competed at state level in Sydney. Zeph came 31st out of 76 and Immy came 52nd out of 77. Well done girls this is an outstanding achievement.
St Anne’s won their first Mortimer Shield Leaguetag trophy last Friday in Wagga. After succesfully qualifying at the Temora gala day, the St Anne’s team had to play four games to qualify for the final against Griffith East Public school. They defeated St Mary’s West Wyalong in a drawn game, however, St Anne’s won because they scored first. They then defeated South Wagga Primary 16-8, St Mary’s Young 20-4 and Young Public 16-4 to qualify for the final. The finals was a close tussle which could easily have gone either way and it was again drawn 4 each at full time, and again St Anne’s won courtesy of scoring first.
All of the girls are to be congratulated on their amazing effort, skill and the spirit in which they played the games. A special mention to the girls who don’t normally play Tag, who learnt so quickly and really excelled. Thanks also to Grace McCrone who came in at the last minute, as a 10 year old playing against 12 year olds, she really shone. Thanks to the parents who took students and supported the girls all day!
The team was Kimberley Roberts, Ava Derrick, Amber Haigh, Claire Hartwig, Lana King, Shiraz Broad, Macey Coddington, Livvy Blackwell, Lani McCrone, Grace McCrone and Marley Block.
The Trent Barrett Shield date has been changed to Thursday 18th August. Students interested in playing need to get their parents to give consent on Compass ASAP.
NSW Cup Netball final is in Wagga on Monday 8th August.
Katrina Fanning Cup for Primary has been cancelled due to lack of numbers.
