Dear St Anne's Community,
I hope that this finds you well. This will be the last newsletter for Term 2. I would like to thank everyone for another positive and productive term with great progress evident across the school.
Staffing
We farewelled Mrs Eberle from Kindergarten at the end of Week 7. We wish her all the best with her upcoming birth.
Mrs Dickason has replaced Mrs Eberle as the classroom teacher of Kindergarten. We are still searching for a Maths Teacher and an English Teacher (maternity leave), if you know of anyone.
Uniform
We have been reminding students about the types of earrings that can be worn. Some students are needing regular reminders that their choice of earrings are not appropriate for school. Long sleeve shirts are not permitted to be worn under polo shirts on sports days. We have a jumper and a jacket as part of our uniform, if the students are cold.
Western Region Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to our Primary Athletes on their amazing win at the Western Region Athletics Carnival here in Temora last Friday. An amazing achievement to win the event as a school. Well done to the record breakers as well! Thank you to Mark Hughes for his organisation of the carnival and to our 9/10 PASS students for their support on the day. A huge thank you to all of our helpers in the canteen and to Noelene Williams for her organisation. We made over $3000 profit, with this money set to support the Long Lunch profits, which is to be spent on updating our playground seating.
Spirituality Day
Staff will participate in a spirituality day at the beginning of next term. Monday 22 July, staff will spend the day at the golf course, where we will be led by representatives from Catholic Education with a focus on the year of the Holy Spirit.
School Compliance Check
This week, a senior officer from Catholic Education visited our school to conduct a compliance check. This compliance check occurs every 5 years. A smaller and more specific check can also be conducted with only 10 days notice and at any time of the year.
What is a Compliance Check?
- NSW Non-government schools have many obligations, including accreditation and registration requirements that they must meet to remain compliant with both the New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA) and Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn (CECG).
Process
- The Principal of the school undertaking the Compliance Review of Registration (and Accreditation) Requirements is to attest that evidence to demonstrate compliance with each NESA and CECG obligation has been made available to the senior officer conducting the check.
Outcome
- Although I am yet to receive our final report, I can pass on that the senior officer was extremely happy with her visit and indicated that we were an exemplar school.
Armidale Visit
Yesterday, the Director of the Armidale Diocese, and two of her colleagues, visited us to find out about our recent journey to Year 11 and 12. They are looking at expanding one of their K-10 schools within the Diocese of Armidale and they wanted to see how we had approached the expansion and any tips we might also have. They provided us with a small gift of 3 books, to go in our school library.
Uniform
The only stock that Lowes are out of at present are the sports shorts in sizes small, 16 and XL. This stock is expected by the second week of July. Size large is also running out. Today, we had a visit from the Lowes School Uniform representative. We have been assured that the Wagga store is well stocked and now building up a better sales history to allow for better stock planning moving forward.
I hope that you have a great break with your children, and we look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday 23 July.
Take care,
Grant Haigh
Principal
Sacrament of Confirmation
We wish our 19 students who are making their Sacrament of Confirmation this weekend all the best. The celebration will be this Sunday at the parish mass, and will be celebrated by Archbishop Christopher Prowse and Father Sijo.
Thank you very much to the following helpers for their assistance in making the stoles for Confirmation.
Keri Perry and Heather Perry for sewing the stoles. Rachael Sheridan and Noelene Williams for helping to assemble the stoles.
Thank you to Nola Drum and Kim Irving in preparing the children and Mai Pham for the beautiful cake.
Tickets for the Parish Wood Raffle are now due. If you would like to go into the draw to win the wood raffle, could you please return the tickets to the front office.
Many thanks for your ongoing support.

Mackillop Touch Selection Trials
St Anne’s were represented by Zephanie Lancaster and Grace McCrone at the MacKillop Touch Selection Trials in Sydney on Friday 14th June. Both girls trialled very well and were selected in the possibles/probables teams. Grace was selected in the MacKillop primary team and will trial for state selection in Wollongong next term. Congratulations to Zephanie and Grace and we wish Grace all the very best next term.
Term 2 has been a great term with TRP. We have continued to work through activities using our key principles, Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy, GEM + EL. The students have been very involved with the learnings and demonstrating these GEMs out and about the school and taking them home.
Throughout the upcoming school holidays, here is a few ways we can continue to bring Gratitude into our days.
Gratitude
A few quick and simple ways to practise being grateful are:
- Journaling; each night write down 3 things that went well for you that day or purchase a gratitude journal with gratitude prompts.
- Write a gratitude letter to someone special, telling them why you are grateful they are in your life.
- Have a family discussion around the dinner table about the things that went well that day or made you smile.
- A game called Rose, Thorn and Banana. Rose being what our favourite part of our day was, or what went well for us today. Thorn being what did not work well for us today or our least favourite part of the day. Banana being, what was the funniest part of our day.
In the classroom with TRP
Year 11 & 12
Year 11 & 12 practised giving each other compliments and then spent some time writing a letter of gratitude to a family member.
In a different TRP activity we spent our lesson completing mindful colouring as part of a mindfulness activity, such a great way to calm the nervous system and de stress! You could hear a pin drop!
Last week Year 12 Society and Culture students travelled to Sydney to partake in a HSC Study Day. This day was a great opportunity to learn from other teachers and meet a few hundred other students studying the same course. Students learned how to decode and break down multiple choice questions and prepare detailed extended responses. They also walked away with a variety of study tools and practise questions to help them revise before the HSC Exam in October. While they were in Sydney students got some 'real life society and culture' by going to China Town, staying in the centre of the city and enjoying the light spectacular of Vivid. It's so great for our students to have the opportunity to broaden their horizons and access such valuable learning opportunities.
Years 10, 11 and 12 students recently attended a Tertiary Careers Expo in Wagga Wagga. Students spent the session busily visiting a vast number of stands representing tertiary institutions, colleges, prospective employers, trades and apprenticeship programs. They had the opportunity to inquire about pathways into their areas of interest for future employment and training. A sincere thank you to Temora Shire Council for funding the transport costs for students to attend this day.
Responding to School Reluctance or Refusal
Guidelines are available for parents and carers dealing with school reluctance or refusal. These are a general set of recommendations on how they can reduce their child’s risk of school refusal and support their mental health and school engagement. The strategies are suitable for both primary and secondary students.
