Dear Parents & Carers,
Welcome back! Term 3 is well underway and students have returned to their normal weekday routine with ease.
Staffing
This term, we welcome Samantha Park and Bailey Robinson to our staff. Samantha and Bailey will support our secondary classes. I have advertised for a school cleaner as well.
Principal
Last term, the announcement of my replacement was made. Mrs Louise Grant will lead the school from 2025 onwards. Mrs Grant will visit the school at the end of this term and again in term 4.
Uniform
Thank you for your support with our uniform. Students have returned looking very smart. A reminder that our new tracksuit pants are available and that these need to be worn, or the old version. There is a two year change over period for the old tracksuit pants to be phased out. Plain navy tracksuit pants are no longer an option for students to wear at school.
Community Council Meeting
Our next CC meeting is on in Week 3, Tuesday 6th August at 7pm. Our meetings are held every Week 3 & 7 each term.
Feast Day St Anne & Joachim
On July 26, the Feast Day of St. Anne and St. Joachim, we honor the lives of Mary’s parents, the earthly grandparents of Jesus. As existing information about Saints Anne and Joachim comes from the Gospel of James and Catholic legend, there is debate over the details of their lives. But regardless, it can be agreed that to be the parents of Jesus’s earthly mother, Saint Anne and Saint Joachim must have been faithful, devoted parents indeed. The patronage of Saint Anne includes grandparents, couples without children, women in labor, and women unable to conceive. Likewise, Saint Joachim is considered the patron of grandfathers, fathers, and grandparents.
Anne, in Hebrew, means "God has given grace." According to existing accounts, she was barren for much of her life. One day in her advanced years, she conceived Mary, the mother of Jesus. Saint Anne dedicated the life of her child to the service of God when she was only three – a decision that was undoubtedly formative in the shaping of the future Mother of God. (nationalshrine.org)
Take care,
Grant Haigh
Principal

The annual Archdiocese of Canberra Goulburn’s SHINE Youth Conference is being run by the CSYMA (Catholic Schools Youth Ministry Australia) team again this year at Merici College on Friday 13th September. The students gain the opportunity to explore Youth Ministry further through a variety of talks, drama, testimony and other elements, as well as practical workshop experiences, where students’ eyes are opened to the gift of faith. They also have the opportunity to ask questions and find out more about developing a relationship with Jesus. SHINE is also a great opportunity for hundreds of young people across the Archdiocese from Years 9 & 10 to come together and learn from each other and build relationships outside of their school community with other students from across our expansive Archdiocese. Communication will be received about this event via compass is the next few days once final arrangements have been made.
Friday 25/7/24 St Anne and Joachim Feast Day
St Anne and Joachim Feast Day
Students will start the feast day with a Mass at 10:15am. We will celebrate the feast of St Anne and Joachim during this Mass and also acknowledge NAIDOC week.
Students are to wear Sports Uniform for the day, as they will be participating in tabloid stations that will be run by our Year 10 students. Tabloids will take place during the last lesson of the day, over at Fr. Hannan Oval.
The theme for this years NAIDOC week, which ran from 7-14 July, is "Keep the fire burning". The theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
