Dear St Anne's Community,
This week I am at the Catholic Principal's Retreat in Bowral. We have been discussing the new system initiative called Catalyst. Catalyst is a professional learning program for school improvement. There are two bold goals that are incorporated into Catalyst; Every student is a competent reader and High impact teaching practice is visible in every classroom. As a system, we will progress through various professional learning sessions over a number of years to reach these goals. I thank our staff for their support of this program. The second part of the retreat was based on "The Inner Work of Leadership" and it was led by Caroline Thompson, Director of Faith Formation, Mercy Partners. It has been a great time for reflection and faith formaton.
A warm welcome to Mrs Kate Harris and Mrs Samantha Park, who will be job sharing Year 4 for the rest of this year.
I am very pleased with the new Maths Program in Years 7 and 8. "Maths Pathways" is a first of its kind Learning and Teaching model that's changing Maths classrooms. Within our context, the students are excited about Maths and they are being rewarded for their effort with excellent growth. I would like to thank Miss Jamieson and Mrs Collins for all the work they have put into making this new program a success and I look forward to hearing all the good news stories that continue to come out of these classes.
The K-2 Initialit program is also well under way in our classrooms. Initialit is a Direct Instruction Phonics program. Thank you to our K-2 teachers for their work with implementing this program.

Lent
During this season of Lent we reflect on the ways in which we can reconnect with God and prepare ourselves for the Easter season. Last Weekend, the Second Sunday of Lent is the time when the Transfiguration is read at Mass. This Scripture passage reminds us that God’s promise is fulfilled in the humanity of Jesus. With Jesus’ face shining and his clothing illuminated he hears the words of God proclaiming Him as God’s son. This moment is a pinnacle moment for Christians. Jesus standing on a mountain also symbolises the connection between God and his own Son, with the highest physical place of the mountain symbolising reaching towards God. This is the moment which best helps us to recognise that Jesus, who was foretold, was fully human and is fully divine. God’s promise continues to be revealed to us as we continue our Lenten journey.

This year we have implemented a new exciting Maths Program in Stage 4 called ‘Maths Pathway’. An individual profile is developed which directs the learning of each student.
The students are assessed each fortnight and given a percentage for effort, accuracy and growth. If a student consistently masters 6 or more modules, then their expected growth for the year is 200% or above.
We are very impressed with the way students have embraced the program and the results they have achieved already. We want to celebrate those students who placed in the 200 Club (200%-299% growth for this two-week cycle), 300 Club (300%-399% growth for this two-week cycle) and the 400 Club (400%-499% growth for this two-week cycle).
On Monday afternoon, our School Captains had the privilege of participating in a round table discussion with the Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack, alongside their School Captain peers from the other great schools in Temora.

PLEASE NOTE: The canteen will be closed Monday 15th March.
We will be accepting cash in the canteen again. Online payment is preferred however cash will be accepted for snacks and ice blocks for recess and lunch Monday and just lunch on Fridays.
There have been several price rises in canteen this year due to supplier price increases, if you are sending your children with cash to buy snacks you can check prices QKR if needed.
Five primary swimmers from St Anne’s travelled to Narooma last week to trial for Canberra-Goulburn swimming selection. They were Carus Gray 3rd in 50m back stroke, Annabelle Gray 2nd 50m freestyle, Will Maxwell 1st in 50 free, 8th in butterfly, 10th 50 backstroke and 3rd 50 breaststroke, Zephanie Lancaster 3rd 50 free and Lani Summerfield 6th 50 butterfly, 8th 50m free and 5th 50m backstroke. Will Maxwell and Annabelle Gray qualified to represent Canberra-Goulburn in Sydney on the 22nd March, where they will trial for MacKillop selection. Well done to all five swimmers and good luck to Will and Annabelle in Sydney.
Secondary Pool Party
Thank you to the secondary students who joined in the fun at the ‘Weird and Quirky’ Pool Party on Wednesday. The games, food and slide were fantastic, but the slide was the best frun of all.
Clean Up Australia Day
A reminder for all students to please be sure to have their hats, drink bottle, gloves and a plastic bag ready for our efforts to ‘Clean up Australia’ tomorrow (this friday 5th March).
Primary will be swimming for the remainder of the term or until the pool closes, except for Week 8, which will be the St Anne's cross country. For cross country, students will walk to Nixon Park after roll call and participate in their event: 8/9 years will run 2km, 10 year will run 2km, 11 and 12 years will run 3km. Each lap of the track around the league and AFL grounds is one kilometre. Students will be back at school by lunch and will make up the first 2 periods in sport time after recess.
The next level of cross country is at Boorowa on Tuesday 30th March.
Nominations for the AFL Paul Kelly Cup must be returned by tomorrow 5th March. At the moment we have enough for a boys team but only 7 girls have nominated. A travel note will be sent home soon.
Nominations for the Winter Trials which includes under 11's rugby league and under 12's rugby league and open primary netball must be in by 23rd March. Nomination forms are available from Mr Hughes. A reminder that players must be of a suitable standard to trial for these sports and parents are responsible for taking their child to trial. Please note that individual nominations are accepted despite what the netball note says.
