Dear St Anne's Community,
I hope that your child has settled back into routine well and that they are enjoying their new year of schooling.
Toilet blocks
The new toilet blocks are operational. Years 7-12 girls have their own block of 6 toilet cubicles and Year 7-12 boys have their own equivalent cubicles. The doors within the toilet blocks were replaced to provide better privacy for the occupants.
Mass
We thank parishioners and families for joining us for the Ash Wednesday Mass yesterday. We would also like to let you know that things are tighter in the church with our increase in student numbers and it can take some time for us to file in. At times, we may need to bring in extra chairs or move some of our students into Joey's hall.
Community Council
Last Tuesday, we met for our first meeting of the year. The community council and I worked through a process of designing the new community council charter based off guidelines from the new governance and compliance document. This will be in place at the next meeting where we will also hold our AGM. We welcome new and exisiting members to come along to this meeting. Tuesday Week 7 at 7pm. The biggest change to come out of the new charter is the requirement for the Community Council funds to be tranferred into a school ledger account. The money remains seperate from school funds and cannot be absorbed or used by the system.
Long Lunch
Our annual Long Lunch event is on Saturday 23rd March from 12-6pm. If you are yet to experience this event, it comes highly recommended by everyone, including myself. Tickets can be purchased through trybooking. Funds raised will go to new student seating options in the playground.
A friendly reminder that students are not permitted on school grounds until 8:30am each morning. Please see important articles about The Resilience Project and sample tracksuit pants further on in this newsletter.
Take care,
Grant Haigh
Principal
Ash Wednesday
The students participated beautifully in the Ash Wednesday Mass today. Thank you to the parishioners who also joined us at Mass. It is a wonderful sight to see such a full church again. We thank all of the students and staff who played important roles in the mass today.
Project Compassion boxes are being sent home with the youngest student in each family this week. The Canberra Goulburn Archdiocese schools all support this worthy cause and we ask that our families all support this worthy cause as best we can. Donations can be collected in the boxes during the season of Lent and returned to the school office at the start of Easter for us to send our school donation on. The money is collected to help vulnerable communities forge a path out of poverty. There are many amazing initiatives which your donation will support, among them are education programs, supporting initiatives of community health workers, vocational training opportunities, and providing life-changing water tanks for families.
First Reconciliation for Year 3 students begins in March
Dates will be sent home to Year 3 families in a hardcopy letter and via compass. Any families who are interested in their children (Year 4 and above) who are baptised Catholic and are interested in them joining the program, (or may have missed out on the Sacrament) please contact Mrs Collins on jacqueline.collins@cg.catholic.edu.au to make arrangements and ensure that you receive all communication.
Year 8 & 9 SHINE Youth Ministry Conference in Cootamundra
Please put these dates in your calendar:
Year 9 will attend the SHINE Youth Ministry Conference on Tuesday 12th March & Year 8 on
Wednesday 13th March.
Further details will be sent home to families via compass in the coming weeks.
What a great start everyone in Kindergarten has made to school life. The children have shown great eagerness and adjustment to school routines. It’s been wonderful to see them begin their day with smiling faces that are happy to be at school. Here are some photos from Kindergarten's first day of school and some from when the paper came to visit. If you would like a copy of any of these please contact Kath in the front office.
A Note from our Student Wellbeing Officer - Lisa Morton
This year we are excited to bring to St Annes Catholic College, The Resilience Project (TRP).
As you would have seen in school correspondence, I have been appointed the Student Wellbeing Officer for St Anne's. I am looking forward to working with students to support and guide them into achieving their personal and wellbeing goals.
Throughout 2024, we will be rolling out TRP to support the wellbeing of our school community. I will be available Tuesdays and Wednesdays to work with students in the playground to assist with implementing the program.
The Resilience Project delivers emotionally engaging programs and provides evidence-based, practical strategies to build resilience.
Our Partnership Program consists of online presentations and weekly lessons for students, professional development for staff, and Parent & Carer Hub (inc. digital presentations) for our parent and carer community.
Over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing the Parent & Carer Hub with you. The presentations are 5 - 10 minutes long and will walk through the key pillars of resilience: Gratitude, Empathy & Mindfulness. You'll hear stories and be introduced to activities to show how these strategies can support our kids in learning and development, and will also support you as parents and carers.
The program is an important part of our schools effort to look after the mental health of our students and the wider community.
Below you will find:
- A short video introducing Hugh van Cuylenburg and learn more about the TRP.
- A document which connect parents/carers to the TRP@home page and provide more tips and useful tools that you can be involved in at home.
- Information on The Student Resilience Survey which students from years 3 - 12 will be conducting in the coming weeks.
View the first presentation of the series here:
Part 1: Meet Hugh and learn about The Resilience Project -

In this presentation, Hugh shares a personal experience about his sisters battles with Mental Illness.
Note: Thsi video contains a story about an Eating Disorder that my be triggering. Please consider this before watching. For mental health resources and support information, visit The Resilience Projects Support Page.
We will be in touch fortnightly via the school newsletter to share the remainder of the program, including research and wellbeing activities to integrate into day-to-day life and enhance the school home connection.
Any questions or concerns please contact the school.
Yours Faithfully,
Lisa Morton

The Hospitality students launched their coffee business on Tuesday. Every Tuesday they will be preparing and serving a range of beverages from the window of the Food Tech Room for the Staff and Year 11 & 12 students.
The experience of setting up a coffee business forms part of their Hospitality studies and gives them simulated industry experience.
The coffee's made on Tuesday were a great hit with staff and we look forward to supporting our hospitality students with their cafe.
