Dear St Anne's Community,
This is our last newsletter for the term and I would like to thank you all for a positive and productive Term 1. I am very pleased with the progress the school is making and the increase in enrolments that we are experiencing.
Welcome
A warm welcome to Ruby and Flynn Matthews. Ruby has joined Year 9 and Flynn will be joining Year 7 on Monday of Week 10.
Parent/Teacher Interviews
I look forward to next Tuesday and Wednesday and the opportunity to open the gates and welcome you into the school again. K-6 interviews will be held in their respective classrooms and Secondary interviews will be held in classrooms along the art room end of the upstairs corridor. Please look for sanitising stations and do not attend if you are unwell. Don't forget to visit the space outside the Food Tech room, to collect a free sausage sandwich or roll.
RAT Kits
Thursday next week, we will be sending home a single rat test with your child. We have some left over from the recent allocation and this will support you if your child is displaying symptoms.
Staff Professional Development
Some of our teachers have been busy attending professional development days or preparing for upcoming days. Please be assured that we always try to limit the impact that this will have on classes while teachers are away from the class.
Enrolments
As I said at the start, it is very pleasing to be welcoming so many new families and their children to St Anne's. Since the start of the year, we have had 12 new students join us. A good news story; our Secondary numbers are the highest we have had since 2015.
Don't forget to keep us updated if you have plans for your child to attend another school next year. This assists us in so many ways and confirms what we hear from students at school.
School Grounds
A friendly reminder that students are not to be on school grounds before 8:30am of a morning. Playground supervision begins at 8:30am, thank you.
The season of Lent will come to a close soon with the beginning of the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday; Thursday 14th April. I wish you and your family a happy and Holy Easter break and I look forward to students returning to school on Wednesday 27th April.
Take care,
Grant Haigh
Principal
Passion Play
A special thank you is extended to the Year 9 & 10 students who have been busy preparing to present the Passion Play next Friday afternoon at 2pm (on the last day of term) in the church. It is very special to be able to share the Easter message with one another once again and we are impressed by the reverent, respectful way in which the students took on this task to lead the St Anne’s community. Stage 5 you should be very proud of yourselves. We are very grateful to you for what you will be sharing with us all.
Thank you also to Miss Ryan for agreeing to sing during the Passion Play. Special thanks are also extended to Mrs Taylor for her assistance with the coordination of the Passion Play and to the secondary staff for their support with the preparations.
Easter Blessings
May you all have a blessed Easter and appreciate the opportunity once again to take some time for reflection, make the time to attend Mass with your loved ones this Easter and to recall the great sacrifice of love and salvation offered for each of us.
Keep an eye out for Archbishop Christopher Prowse’s 2022 Easter message which will become available in the coming days via the Canberra Goulburn website link below:
First Reconciliation
We continue to keep the students from Year 3 who are preparing to make their first Reconciliation in our prayers. A reminder that this Saturday evening at 6pm is the last weekend Mass for families to present their child for enrolment to the program. If you are unable to commit to attending this Mass and are yet to enrol please contact Fr Sijo to make arrangements at an alternate parish mass during a weekday.
Harmony Week was celebrated during K to 6 Library lessons in Week 8. Students viewed and discussed the features of traditional clothing from Germany, Croatia and the Philippines. They also looked at different money from a variety of countries. Students enthusiastically, some more than others, participated in learning a Croatian Folk Dance. Special thanks to Shiraz Broad who brought in a slideshow about the Philippines, traditional clothing and Kutsinta, which is a type of steamed rice cake, for her classmates to sample. Shiraz and Kim also taught their class some Filipino words.
The start of 2022 has seen our Secondary students returning to the classroom with great attitudes and a real sense of eagerness towards their learning.
Year 8 English have spent the past few weeks intensively working on their written language skills. They have each produced a folio that contains many pieces of non-fiction writing. We have used these skills in the past week or so to write colourful biographies on our friends and even write about how their own lives might pan out.
Year 7 History has examined the ancient world with a specific focus on the origins of our First Nations People. They have developed their investigative skills through an in-depth look at Narrabeen man and how he both lived and died. They are now moving onto ancient Egypt and already able to make comparisons between the two cultures.
Year 9 History has looked at the way Australia developed as a nation and are now starting to look at World War 1. They will be studying the events of the Anzacs time at Gallipoli when we return from the holidays.
Year 10 History has been developing their understanding of our nation and our culture through a close study of the ways rights changed throughout the 20th Century. The main focus here has been our First Nations People and they have conducted their own research into how and why changes happened. It has been wonderful to watch them form their own opinions on past events and to hear their hopes for the future.
Stage 5 Commerce is currently beginning a unit on Running a Small Business. WE began this with a walk through some of the businesses in town. We visited Rick Firman and learned about the history of his shop, then went to KaMarley and Me to look at the changes that had been made to that space in order for the space to transform from a restaurant to a retail space. From there we went to say hello to Tracey in Teez Bakes and Cakes, they were very impressed with the rocky road samples she handed out. Students compared the layout of these shops to the one in Tanza, and had a good look at the way a variety of items were sold in one space; There may even have been a suggestion that they could work on what to buy for Mother’s day. We finished our tour at Kayshe with a visit to past student Deklyn Lomax.
The Anzac Day March and Service will be held on Monday 25th April 2022 commencing at 10.45am from the police station to the cenotaph for the 11:00am Service.
Any students who are attending are asked to wear full winter school uniform and assemble at the police station at 10:40am.

This week students in Years 3/5/7/9 have been participating in online NAPLAN practice tests. These tests are designed to give students the opportunity to get used to the features of the online tests. The real NAPLAN tests are scheduled for the begninning of May, so if you have children in Years 3/5/7/9 please keep the first two weeks of May free. The tests are an important opportunity to gather information about student progress, and we encourage all students to participate.
